Allah, in the Qur'an, declares that the faithful in Paradise are blessed with salam, meaning peace, protection, salvation, salutation, and blessings from the Beneficent Lord (Surah Ya Sin 57). Through this verse, Allah al-Rahim rewards believers with the desired safety and joy of Paradise, protecting them from all harm and providing them with peace and blessings in the afterlife. As-Salam represents a state of being without fault, error, danger, or trouble, and is similar to the divine name al-Quddus, except that it pertains to the future. It also denotes perseverance, steadfastness, and continuity to eternity. Allah is always the source of safety for His creation, never aiming to harm them, even when we experience pain and trouble that we cause ourselves. We may mistakenly believe that our suffering is the will of Allah, but in reality, every affliction contains a hidden blessing, much like how an amputation can save one's life.
Those
who have attained the tranquility and protection of as-Salam in their hearts
put their faith in Allah and rely on Him for all matters, fully aware that this
divine name will save them from all hazards and challenges. If someone rescues
them from harm, they recognize Allah as the true Savior, while remaining
grateful to the intermediary. A Turkish saying cautions against depending on
people or things that eventually perish or decay. On the contrary, those who
depend on Allah as-Salam, the ultimate Savior, remain fearless and composed,
manifesting the unwavering strength of a true believer.
As-Salam is also reflected in patience. Allah has said, "If I afflict My servant with pain, whether it be through their body, possessions, family or children, and they endure it with patience and faith in Me, I would be ashamed to evaluate their deeds or inspect their records on the Day of Judgment."
The person known as 'Abd as-Salam has purged their heart of animosity, jealousy, deceit, and vindictiveness. They possess the ability to prevent all of their body parts from committing sinful and illicit actions, and have freed themselves from being enslaved by their ego. After achieving this condition, Allah safeguards them against all afflictions, deprivation, and humiliation. If this individual, who has authority over their ego and is under the care of their Creator, recites ya Salam 160 times over a sick person, Allah may grant that person recovery.
